All your phone calls are mine

The vast majority of calls carried out on the 3.5 billion GSM connections in the world today are protected by a 21-year old 64-bit encryption algorithm? Given that the A5/1 privacy algorithm, devised in 1988, has been deciphered by German computer engineer Karsten Nohl and published
Nohl assures everyone that the hardware and software needed are all available through free, open-source channels.
All your phone calls can now easily be monitored by regular people
just like the army's spy drones can be monitored for a mere $25 skydrone program
soon to come a full guide and programs to monitor all you phone calls on gsm networks like ATT etc...

Blackberry Service Down (Again)

Research In Motion's Blackberry e-mail service suffered a significant outage for the second time in as many weeks.

"Some Blackberry customers in the Americas are currently experiencing delays in message delivery," RIM said in a statement.

"Our technical teams are actively working to resolve this issue for those impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience," RIM said.

The problem appeared to arise early Wednesday, as users flooded Twitter and other social networking sites with posts in which they complained their Blackberry service had slowed to a crawl or was down altogether.

Court bans sale of Word; Microsoft has fix ready

A federal appeals court ordered Microsoft Corp. to stop selling its Word program in January and pay a Canadian software company $290 million for violating a patent, upholding the judgment of a lower court.

But people looking to buy Word or Microsoft's Office package in the U.S. won't have to go without the software. Microsoft said Tuesday it expects that new versions of the product, with the computer code in question removed, will be ready for sale when the injunction begins on Jan. 11.

Why Do people Create Spyware dec 2009

For Immediate Release
Washington D.C.
FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The FBI estimates scareware has cost victims more than $150 million."

Pop-Up Security Warnings Pose Threats
"The FBI warned consumers today about an ongoing threat involving pop-up security messages that appear while they are on the Internet. The messages may contain a virus that could harm your computer, cause costly repairs or, even worse, lead to identity theft. The messages contain scareware, fake or rogue anti-virus software that looks authentic."

The reason these rogues are created in the first place is because they generate huge amounts of revenue. These rogues are promoted through through affiliate programs where affiliates get paid a certain amount of dollars, some as high as $30, every time the rogue is installed on a computer. As most of these rogue companies do not care how the affiliates get the program installed, many of the affiliates will use any means at their disposal to get these programs installed on a computer. This includes using malware to silently install them or fake online anti-malware scanners to trick a user into thinking they are infected.

A Guide to a More Secure Network

A small basic guide for securing your business network without spending a lot of money.

1 .Deploy a filter on your network for websites and emails using an untangle server
which is fully loaded with a spam filter and web filter. - It's important to block ads in your filter as they are the most common source of virus infections; see http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9138457/Drudge_other_sites_flooded_with_malicious_ads. Websites like Drudgereport or the New York Times
can infect you with viruses with their ads. - Next deploy a dns filter like opendns (free).

2. Make sure all software including Windows is up to date with the latest security fixes.

3.Install anti-virus protection on every PC, for example Symantec endpoint protection 11. This is good for old viruses, (disclaimer: corporate anti-virus software is worthless against new viruses. I have seen every new virus bypass it with flying colors. Home solutions anti-virus software is a little better such as Norton internet security 2010)

4.Deploy free prevx scanner to monitor your network.

5.Use common sense. Do not open websites or email attachments you are not familiar with and any ".exe" file.

6.Disable local users administrative access (Disclaimer: Doesn't help much for original infections but it does stop it from hijacking your entire PC)

The Importance of Having a Web Filter

When you hear of cyber attacks and stolen credit cards or identities it's mostly from virus attacks within corporate or government networks.

The cyber-hackers “are clearly ahead of the defense in terms of anti-virus solutions, firewall solutions, etc,” Jeffrey Troy, chief of the FBI’s cybercrime section told the Financial Times. Online bank thefts in 2009 had seen “a very dramatic increase from past years”.

Having a filter that blocks most non business websites extremely important to protecting valuable information. Some professionals, citing the ongoing boom in virus infections through such social networks as Facebook and Twitter, fear the trends could combine in 2010.

Mr Troy estimated that criminals took about $40m from bank accounts this year, primarily targeting the small and mid-sized businesses that are themselves customers of small and mid-sized banks.

Tips to prevent your computer from getting viruses:

Computer viruses are used as a catch-all phrase to include all types of Malware, worms, trojans, rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crimeware, and other malicious and unwanted software including true viruses.

3. Always have an anti-virus installed and for home users get a complete solution like Norton Internet Security 2010.
4. Keep your Anti-virus software up-to-date.
5. Avoid running attachments (especially .EXE files) that are attached to your e-mail, even if they are sent from friends, relatives or colleagues.

Touch Screen Computers for Home Use

If you're considering buying a computer for home use it's best to get an all-in-one touch screen computer which features the tower and screen as one object that essentially does away with the jumble of wires that plagues every computer user. The computer can turn into an easy to use multi-touch screen as you view your pictures and emails. All this is enhanced (obviously) with Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 7.

Coming soon, touch screen laptops and more.

Windows 7 is now recommend for new computers

Windows 7, Microsoft's latest operating system offers better security and a very nice interface.
All new computers sold by cyknetworks will now come loaded with Windows 7. Windows 7 is not what Windows Vista has been known for, such as being slow and buggy. Windows 7 is a nice and  stable operating system and is highly recommended.
