Component shortages lead analysts to forecast rise in prices of personal electronics and computers

The FT reports that DRAM prices have recently risen by 23 percent, followed closely by LCD prices with a 20 percent jump, both in response to the financial crisis the whole globe seems to be suffering from. Because the effects of recently renewed investment in capacity building won't be felt for a while, we're told to prepare for higher prices throughout this year -- a significant combo breaker from the previous decade's average of around 7.8 percent drops.

Nohl assures everyone that the hardware and software needed are all available through free, open-source channels.
All your phone calls can now easily be monitored by regular people

Court bans sale of Word; Microsoft has fix ready

A federal appeals court ordered Microsoft Corp. to stop selling its Word program in January and pay a Canadian software company $290 million for violating a patent, upholding the judgment of a lower court.

But people looking to buy Word or Microsoft's Office package in the U.S. won't have to go without the software. Microsoft said Tuesday it expects that new versions of the product, with the computer code in question removed, will be ready for sale when the injunction begins on Jan. 11.

Why Do people Create Spyware dec 2009

For Immediate Release
Washington D.C.
FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The FBI estimates scareware has cost victims more than $150 million."

Pop-Up Security Warnings Pose Threats
"The FBI warned consumers today about an ongoing threat involving pop-up security messages that appear while they are on the Internet. The messages may contain a virus that could harm your computer, cause costly repairs or, even worse, lead to identity theft. The messages contain scareware, fake or rogue anti-virus software that looks authentic."

The reason these rogues are created in the first place is because they generate huge amounts of revenue. These rogues are promoted through through affiliate programs where affiliates get paid a certain amount of dollars, some as high as $30, every time the rogue is installed on a computer. As most of these rogue companies do not care how the affiliates get the program installed, many of the affiliates will use any means at their disposal to get these programs installed on a computer. This includes using malware to silently install them or fake online anti-malware scanners to trick a user into thinking they are infected.
